The 5 Best Monitors For Photo Editing Spring 2024: Reviews

monitor for graphic design

We've picked out those that the performance and supporting features to make them suitable for graphic designers and artists with different needs. The two most important traits for graphics design are color accuracy and color gamut. Accurate color ensures the color shown on a monitor will be like that on other monitors, while a wide color gamut ensures support for industry standard color spaces. 4K resolution is preferred, and 1440p is the minimum that we recommend. Viewsonic’s ColorPro VP16-OLED is a portable monitor for travelers and those with limited desk space.

The 5 Best monitors of 2023 by categories

If you’ve seen a desktop setup with monitors in sequence divided by perfect-looking, thin borders, this is likely the monitor you’ve seen. Dell pulled out all the stops with the latest Ultrasharp model to provide a monitor that saves on costs but doesn’t compromise on quality. While we found this monitor to lack some of the fancier flairs of other industry-level monitors we’ve tested, this is a beast of a contender at an astonishingly low price. If you’ve got a little more to spend than the previous monitor, you’re in for a treat.

Price adjusted to its characteristics

Finally, build quality and value for money are judged against competitors in the market. In this article, we will provide a comprehensive guide to the best monitors for graphic designing. We will explore the features, pros, and cons of the top monitors in the industry, ranging from budget-friendly options to high-end models. Either of these best-in-class monitors will provide unmatched quality and convenience to maximise your productivity as a graphic designer. Instead, a resolution of at least 2560 by 1440 will give you a good balance between quality and price. The Apple Studio Display currently offers 5K resolution, which is nice to have if you’re flush with budget. Screen size will have a big (no pun intended) impact on your workflow.

Just like with camera lenses, reflections are bad news when it comes to monitors. They reduce contrast and have a negative overall effect on the on-screen image. Ambient lighting can also cause odd color casts on the screen, which can affect its performance. Some displays rely on anti-reflective coatings or matt surfaces in order to cut down on reflections. That’s something to consider if you work in a space with a lot of ambient light or windows.

While color gamut, for example, might not be as crucial to a hobbyist designer, it’s still cool to know what it means and will help you make informed decisions. Plus, it’s important to be aware of the tech terms so you can decide which is the best 4K monitor for your needs. If compared to Adobe RGB though, Adobe RGB allows for a higher range of colors, or color gamut, over the same number of colors.

A Budget Gaming Monitor

Personally, I am currently sporting a Dell Ultrasharp WQHD 27″ Monitor as my main Monitor that displays most of the GUI Elements, Menus, Timelines, and 3D Viewport. This is especially helpful when you have more than one Monitor, and both don’t seem to be displaying colors in the same way, which can be a nuisance. The best Monitors are only truly great when they are calibrated correctly. For Gaming, Ultra-Wides or curved Monitors are quite popular and the benefits for gaming are very apparent, but I wouldn’t yet recommend these for most kinds of professional workloads. There is some extra Software that usually comes with Ultra-wides which tries to simulate having multiple displays, but this just doesn’t feel like the real thing.

Dell U4320Q 43 Inch 2160p 4K UltraSharp

As well as the quality of the display itself, we also evaluate build, ergonomics, connectivity and price. We then seek to identify the best monitor for different needs and budgets. This is our top pick as the best monitor for graphic designers, artists, and creatives in general, especially if you’re a Macbook user. It will elevate your design experience with stunning visuals, seamless Mac compatibility, and excellent connectivity options. Especially recommended for digital graphic designers, web designers or professionals who do not work or rely excessively on DCI-P3 or Adobe RGB color spaces, as it only covers 72% and 75% of these. Designed with the needs of graphic designers, illustrators, and other visual artists in mind, this monitor is the perfect blend of affordability and top-tier features.

The writers and editors at Pop Photo have decades of extensive experience in just about every area of photography, including peripherals like monitors. While there are certainly specific features related to graphic design monitors, the needs of a graphic designer mostly overlap with those of photo and video editors. Resolution, screen size, and color accuracy are essential to both practices and were prioritized when selecting monitors.

We also consider connectivity, including HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C and wireless interfaces. The VA tech delivers great contrast, but not the best color accuracy. What we found when we tested out the display was a nice, big 4K monitor that, ultimately, isn’t intended for professional content creation workflows. To give you an idea, the manufacturer rates the panel at 88 percent coverage of the Adobe RGB gamut. That's reasonable enough, but not the stuff of serious content creation.

If you can afford the extra to buy one, this is the best monitor for Mac graphic designs hands down. Most graphics designers work in an industry standard color space that describes a specific range of color. Our tests consider whether a monitor supports any special features that give it an advantage.

A Coke bottle and other debris were thrown in the melee, and police attacked protestors with billy clubs, throwing teenagers over the white picket fence. Indulge all senses when experiencing this famed New York City steakhouse. An innovative menu paired with an extensive wine list features signature prime cuts of beef and the dining room is striking with siren red interior and black and white vintage photography. The Midtown outpost of Strip House on 44th Street has the same cheeky, burlesque-inspired decor as  its Greenwich Village location, and it’s one of the better options around Bryant Park for a proper meal. The lunch scene here is sleepy, but sitting alone at a quiet bar with just our thoughts and an eight-ounce strip steak is a rare joy in this area. A sandwich board outside advertises their “famous” 24-layer chocolate cake.

Some purists staunchly insist that a place can’t be called a true strip club unless the girls tease down to the buff and bare all. Personally, we don’t have a horse in that race, but regardless, nude strip clubs in LA definitely have a different vibe than other local bars offering similar services. For one, California state law prohibits full nudity and the sale of alcohol at the same venue.

“Oh, my gosh, how those girls jiggle so much with their titties while theyʼre dahn-cing,” Valentine recalled actor James Mason gasping with his clipped British accent. Pandora’s Box, which had started off as a 1950s jazz club, became a haven for California rock acts and comedians like the Smothers Brothers. In October 1962, The Beach Boys held a series of concerts at Pandora’s Box, bringing unkempt teenage fans to the area—far different from the slick movie stars and mobsters that had once called the Strip home. The teenagers began to congregate outside the tiny club as well, hanging out on a traffic island in the middle of the street, says Martino.

According to Priore, in July 1965, a new county ordinance “permitting minors to participate in the dancing at public eating places even if not accompanied by a parent” went into effect, and the Strip was flooded with teenagers below the age of 18. The riot would soon end with few a minor injuries and arrests, but the incident would signal the grand finale of the teenage culture that had flourished on the Strip for a few brief years in the mid-1960s. As the night wore on, tensions between police and protesters heightened. Old Homestead has been around since 1868, and still serves some of the best steaks in the city.

In reality, he would likely serve a lot less based on sentencing guidelines. The maximum sentence on each count Trump faces in New York is four years of prison. Dissatisfied with coverage in the local press and use of the term “riot” to describe events on the Strip, the Byrds’ manager and Elektra record producer, Jim Dickson, teamed up with the Beatles and Beach Boys press officer, Derek Taylor.

The Strip and its new plethora of underage clubs were now drawing young rock ‘n’ roll fans, hippies, mods, freaks, and fame-seekers from all over America. Strip House Midtown at 44th Street brings all the Strip House signatures - prime cuts charred to perfection, decadent sides, a sultry siren red interior - to a brand new bi-level space for lunch, dinner and private dining. Visit the second NYC location for a classic cocktail at the bar or a full steakhouse experience.

Under Thompson's bill, any Secret Service protectee would have their security stripped if convicted of a state or federal offense that is punishable by at least a year in prison. As such, it could apply to any future president, vice president, and their families. The Secret Service also protects major presidential candidates. Rep. Bennie Thompson, the former chairman of the House January 6 committee, introduced legislation on Friday that would strip former President Donald Trump of Secret Service protection if he is sentenced to prison. According to Priore, the family gave an interview to the LA Times, decrying the kids “all over the place causing commotion,” spending no money, and scaring paying customers from going to high-end Strip institutions. Eager to capitalize on the changing times, the venerable Ciro’s reopened in 1964 as Ciro’s Le Disc.

Your neighbors at the bar are a mixed bag, ranging from run-of-the-mill barflies, couples (straight and LGBTQ) and a growing number of hip twentysomethings. A dance will run you $20 and there’s not much in the way of privacy, but sometimes the spirit takes you and – if that dancer is good enough – you’ll forget everyone else exists. Most strip clubs are open nightly until the wee hours of the morning, so don't think of them just for Saturday night bachelor parties – they can also serve as Tuesday night entertainment for one. The talent ranges in age, size, ethnicity, attractiveness and friendliness, but as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Chances are good your experience will at least be good people watching, even if you don't get googly-eyed. Be sure to bring plenty of singles (cash, that is) to avoid visiting their ATM serving up $20 bills.

Since some clubs enforce a dress code, be sure to plan accordingly. Take may forms, from tried and true joints in the Valley to Hollywood mainstays made famous by the likes of Mötley Crue. The city is a land of plenty when it comes to scantily clad ladies—but how to find the best ones? Heading to a strip club may seem straightforward, but there’s a lot going on under the surface and more than a few factors to consider when determining the best L.A. The intersection of Sunset and Crescent Heights boulevards teemed with hundreds of young people—fighting for their right to party past 10 p.m. The gathering, which began as a “a kind of carnival, just a bunch of kids letting off steam,” was centered on the gold and purple painted Pandora’s Box at 8118 Sunset, a psychedelic rock ‘n’ roll club surrounded by a white picket fence.

Targaryens: A Dance of Dragons and Fire

Meanwhile, Drogon takes Dany to the Dothraki Sea, and she hallucinates many events. After his conquest, Aegon built the Iron Throne and created King’s Landing as the capital. However, the Dornish Wars ended in a truce as Queen Rhaenys and her dragon Meraxes got killed by the Dornish forces. After her death, Prince Nymor Martell sent his daughter with Meraxes skull and a letter.

Aegon's Conquest begins

In perhaps her greatest turnaround yet, Daenerys secured the loyalty of the roughly 100,000 Dothraki assembled at the time,[41] finally gaining the numbers – though not the means – to retake Westeros. House Targaryen's military strength has fluctuated over the last few years under Daenerys Targaryen's leadership. Since the death of her husband Khal Drogo, Daenerys has commanded a khalasar containing only a few dozen riders, less than half of whom are warriors, as well as a single trained knight, Jorah Mormont. During her time in the Red Waste and Qarth, Daenerys's dragons were not large enough to provide combat assistance. House Targaryen was one of the forty dragonlord families of the Valyrian Freehold, an empire that rose in Essos and dominated much of the known world.

Aegon “The Conqueror” Targaryen

Hopefully, we will at least see the inevitable showdown between Daemon and (Mini-Me) Aemond, and if that plot point follows the Fire and Blood book, both men should be very afraid. Thus, they became the only dragon-riding family after Valyria fell, and could share the history of the great place with the world. Armed with great heritage from Valyria and the power to tame dragons, the Targaryens soon rose to unparalleled power. After crossing the Narrow Sea, the family settled in Dragonstone, the place that would go on to become their ancestral home.

Viserys and Daenerys dwelt awhile in Braavos, but after their money was stolen by disloyal servants they became wanderers. Viserys became known as the Beggar King and attracted some attention from discontented Targaryen loyalists living in exile in the Free Cities, but never gained sufficient support to become a threat. Eventually they were taken in by the wealthy merchant Ilyrio Mopatis of Pentos, who concocted a plan with Viserys to marry Daenerys to a powerful faction of the eastern continent who would be able to help them win back the throne.

house targaryen

Before passing away, Aemon asks of Daenerys and learns about her and her dragons. On her way to Pentos, Ser Jorah Mormont advises Daenerys to head for Astapor instead and get an army of the Unsullied. After freeing the slaves, she heads to Yunkai, where she negotiates with Stormcrows. After defeating his enemies, Aenys faced another opposition from the Faith of the Seven.

Aerys II Targaryen

Occasionally, all of this simmering resentment boiled over into violence, like when Rhaenyra's son Luke slashed the eye out of Alicent's son Aemond during a childish squabble gone very, very bad. King Viserys dead, and war has officially broken out between his daughter Rhaenyra and Rhaenyra's own half-brother Aegon, the son of Viserys and Rhaenyra's former bestie Alicent Hightower. The gloves are off, there's no one left to keep the peace, and the rivers will run red with blood. Season 1 of House of the Dragon begins with the blossoming friendship between Rhaenyra and Alicent, an aspect ambiguously missing in the book.

But that also means that instead of an 18-year-old being coerced into marrying a 29-year-old, she’s an 18-year-old being coerced into marrying a man of about 50. This makes the issues of consent, control, and power imbalance even starker, and arguably makes Alicent’s role in the story to come one that’s less about power-seeking and more about survival. Things don’t end well for Rhaenyra and Harwin, unfortunately — the situation is just too unstable for Rhaenyra to keep a lover on the side while the line of succession is in dispute, and the king sends Harwin into exile. Rhaenyra responds by secretly marrying her uncle Daemon after Laenor Valeryon’s death — which infuriates her father. Following Aemma’s death, Viserys marries Alicent Hightower (played by Emily Carey as a younger woman), a girl only a few years older than Rhaenyra herself. As she grows up, Rhaenyra finds herself at odds with her former friend Alicent, and soon they’re locked in a battle over whether Rhaenyra or Alicent’s son Aegon should take the throne after Viserys’s death.

Aegon IV sparked this conflict by legitimizing his many bastard children on his deathbed. These so-called Great Bastards now had a claim to the throne of Westeros. Aegon IV's actual heir, Daeron II, tried and failed to appease his siblings, and war broke out when they attempted to take the throne.

A century ago, House Targaryen conquered and unified the realm under the leadership of Aegon the Conqueror and his sister-queens Visenya and Rhaenys. The son of the Sea Snake, Laenor Velaryon (John MacMillan) marries Rhaenyra Targaryen largely for political purposes. Laenor is gay, and he and Rhaenyra agree to an open marriage before they’re betrothed.

They also seem to be somewhat more tolerant of extreme heat and high temperatures than other people, though they are by no means invulnerable to fire – or at least, not all of them. Getting back to more concrete matters, there's another big battle from the pages of Fire & Blood that we may or may not get to by the end of House of the Dragon season 2. Rhaenyra's son Jacaerys Velaryon will find himself as part of his mother's dragon airforce, alongside several other new characters known as the dragonseeds. Eventually, they attack a fleet of ships sent by the Triarchy — the same guys that Daemon and Corlys Velaryon were fighting early in the first season — in a fight known as the Battle of the Gullet. We're not expecting Rhaenrya and Alicent to physically fight in season 2; with war officially declared, that will mainly fall to their armies and their dragonriders. However, their conflict remains at the heart of the show, so their metaphorical battle will go on.

As a teenager, though, Aegon seems to care little about who inherits the throne. He spends most of his time bullying the other children in the castle. Only when his mother Alicent points out that Rhaenyra will likely kill Aegon and his siblings to secure her place on the Iron Throne does the young boy seem to become invested in questions of succession. Aegon does eventually ascend the throne, but only after an episode is dedicated to learning about his depraved behavior among the people of Flea Bottom after he escapes the Red Keep. (Though, in fairness, it’s pronounced “Ennis.”) But he overcame that to become a kind ruler until his brother killed him in cold blood. He married Alyssa Velaryon, a descendent of the one other Valyrian family that survived the downfall of that city—though crucially Velaryons are not dragonriders.

Due to their mastery of dragons, and thus sorcery, they had no real opposition to contend with. Using dragonfire and magic, they built their grand capital city of Valyria, which was unmatched in quality in the east. House Lannister replaced House Baratheon as the royal house in the aftermath of the War of the Five Kings, but they were defeated in the Last War. After Daenerys burnt King's Landing, she was assassinated by her nephew Jon Snow to prevent further destruction. Jon is the last known Targaryen, but his identity as the son of Rhaegar Targaryen is kept a secret, and he was exiled to the Night's Watch for the assassination of Daenerys, effectively ending House Targaryen.

If you hate suspense and would rather binge the entire season, you’ll have to wait until August 4, which is when the final episode airs. We’re now just weeks away from season 2 of House of the Dragon, so let’s quickly recap the events of the first season and what we can expect from the upcoming episodes. The wait for Season 2 of House of the Dragon might have felt like forever, but the Dance of the Dragons will play out on our screens in just a scant couple of months. The Targaryen civil war will be a violent turning point in the saga. Daenys the Dreamer saw in a haze the town of Valyria burning hot red with ashes twinkling like stars in the sky above.

A smart decision on the creators’ part to show their close bond which ultimately sours and turns into the civil war of the century. It creates a more impactful hit for the viewers to witness such close friends fight with everything in their power (most importantly dragons) and spread waves of destruction and bloodshed across the realm. We could even see House of the Dragon explore the events of Robert's Rebellion in greater depth, especially if the series makes the downfall of the Mad King the crux of its final season. This would be a way of working in familiar characters like Robert Baratheon and Ned Stark. However, with Game of Thrones already exploring the conflict through multiple flashbacks, we doubt the entire series would be geared toward filling in the blanks of a story fans already know pretty well.

House Targaryen Wiki of Westeros Fandom

house targaryen

Drogon was anguished to discover his mother’s lifeless body, but he did not blame Jon for her death. Instead, he used his fiery breath to melt the Iron Throne before carrying Daenerys across the Narrow Sea. This page includes content relating to the Dance of the Dragons, and therefore contains potential spoilers for future seasons of House of the Dragon, as revealed in George R.R. Martin's writings. Anyone wishing to remain completely spoiler free for this prequel series should avoid any pages displaying this tag.

Princess Rhaenys Targaryen

Five hundred years ago, the Targaryens departed the Valyrian homelands and travelled to Dragonstone, a small island off the east coast of Westeros, where they established a keep and trading post. According to some legends, a Targaryen ancestor named Aenar encouraged this move due to a prophetic vision. Other reports suggest that the Targaryens may have been exiled, or merely assigned to establish the trading post. In Qarth an assassin tried to kill Dany, but an old man (actually Barristan Selmy in disguise) intervened. He and a eunuch revealed themselves as agents of magister Illyrio. Illyrio had sent three merchant ships to transport Dany and her people to Pentos.

More Must-Reads From TIME

The two surviving Targaryens, Viserys and Daenerys, fled into exile to the Free Cities of Essos across the Narrow Sea. Now, is this the same as a writer or a showrunner or George R.R. Martin confirming that “beast beneath the boards” was foreshadowing Rhaenys on Meleys in Season 1 rather than Blood and Cheese in Season 2? Definitely not, but it does feel to me like it debunks the Blood and Cheese prophecy theory. All in all, it probably doesn’t make a huge difference one way or the other if House of the Dragon somehow confirms what Helaena was referring to. Still, it was fun to theorize during Season 1 and the long wait for Season 2. We shall also meet an endless stream of new character including Alys Rivers (Gayle Rankin), a mysterious healer from Harrenhal, who plays a pivotal role in the book.

Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon Cast

When tensions mounted during a gladiatorial match at one of Meereen's greatest fighting pits, Daenerys escaped on the back of Drogon, her fiercest dragon. She was then captured by the forces of Khal Moro, who brought her to Vaes Dothrak. According to Dothraki custom, a widowed khaleesi must live out her days within the city.

However, the bloodline of House Targaryen still exists in various houses, such as House Baratheon, House Velaryon, and House Martell. The content on this site is for entertainment and educational purposes only. All advice, including picks and predictions, is based on individual commentators’ opinions and not that of Minute Media or its related brands. No one should expect to make money from the picks and predictions discussed on this website. The second season of House of the Dragon will premiere on HBO and Max on Sunday, June 16, and run for eight episodes. In Fire & Blood, Arryk Cargyll is dispatched to infiltrate Rhaenyra Targaryen's stronghold of Dragonstone by impersonating his brother Erryk.

Thus began the reign of King Robert Baratheon, and the end of Targaryen rule. The Valyrian dragonlords thrived for centuries, until an event known as the Doom of Valyria smashed the Freehold apart. A mysterious cataclysm involving the eruption of multiple volcanoes, the Doom literally and figuratively fractured the empire. Knowledge of magic, technology, and history vanished into the flames, and the Valyrian peninsula was split into islands, with the Smoking Sea between them.

Game of Thrones: Season 2

Though few would ever know it, she hadn't been kidnapped at all — she and Rhaegar had truly loved each other. In the meantime, King's Landing was sacked with the help of the Lannisters. When Aerys II revealed his plans to immolate King's Landing with wildfire, Jaime Lannister, a member of his Kingsguard, slew him. Ned Stark returned from Dorne with Aegon, who he claimed to be his bastard son, Jon Snow.

Aerys II's surviving children, Viserys and Daenerys, spent their formative years in the Free Cities, attempting to outrun Robert Baratheon's assassins. While Viserys was old enough to remember living in King's Landing, Daenerys had only known life outside Westeros. Crowned by his mother during the sack of King's Landing, Viserys expected subservience from the people around him. Aegon died 37 years after his conquest, leading to a variety of uprisings in the following decades. An outlaw known as the Vulture King of Dorne rose up against King Aenys Targaryen, though he was swiftly put down.

Viserys Targaryen

The Targaryens were among numerous wealthy, dragon-riding families living in this technologically advanced wonderland. However, the Targaryens fled the city a century before Aegon's Conquest, avoiding the mysterious cataclysm that left Valyria an empty ruin. House Targaryen is the primary house in HBO’s Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. In Game of Thrones, Daenerys returns to Westeros after conquering the cities of Slaver’s Bay. She teams up with Jon Snow to reclaim her rightful position as Queen.

Given the way Fire and Blood narrates the events, there is no way for us to know how each character would have felt or what thoughts they might have had while the story went on. However, House of the Dragon has a chance to adapt the story and give each character a unique voice and personality. The scene where we first understand Rhaenyra’s will and confidence is when she negotiates the dragon egg’s return from Daemon at Dragonstone.

Rhaenyra gets crowned Queen in Dragonstone, while Alicent has her son Aegon crowned in King’s Landing. During the first few seasons, we believe that Daenerys is the last surviving Targaryen, and her claim to the throne makes her easy to root for since we see her suffer all kinds of injustices along the way. Her journey from the East is long and tedious, and she suffers insults, violence, the loss of her husband, and even chains, which makes her grow irritable and restless. Her counsel urges her to have patience but Daenerys feels like she has been placid for too long.

When Daeron II died, his son Aerys I took the throne, but he was bookish and reclusive, leaving the realm almost entirely to the ruling of his Hand, his uncle Brynden Rivers, known as 'Bloodraven'. Aerys I died after 12 years of rule and was succeeded by his brother Maekar. Maekar had not expected to inherit, as he was only the fourth son of King Daeron, but ruled reasonably well until he was killed in battle with an outlaw lord.

During the increasingly erratic reign of King Aerys II, his son Rhaegar was said to have kidnapped Lyanna Stark of Winterfell for unknown reasons; this led to a massive uprising led by Eddard Stark, Robert Baratheon, and Jon Arryn. At the end of this war, Aerys and Rhaegar were dead and the Targaryen power-base in Westeros destroyed. Aerys's youngest children, Viserys and Daenerys, were taken by Targaryen loyalists into exile in the Free Cities of the East. Unknown to most, however, Rhaegar had his marriage with Elia Martell annulled and remarried Lyanna, with whom he also had a son, Jon Snow.

But because of the preceding generation of chaos, the line of succession isn’t clear. So, at the start of House of the Dragon, Jaehaerys summons a council to choose the next heir. The two Targaryens with the best claim to the throne are his grandson, Viserys, and his granddaughter-slash-grandniece, Rhaenys. They’re both his grandchildren, so both have an equal claim to the throne.

A century after the Doom, Aegon I, styled the Conqueror, began his conquest of mainland Westeros, landing with dragons and an army (at what would later be called King's Landing). Six of the seven Westerosi kingdoms fell before him (the seventh, Dorne, later joined through a political marriage). The Targaryen dragons, which were the last known to exist, went extinct over a century after Aegon's conquest. House of the Dragon received a straight-to-series order in October 2019, with casting beginning in July 2020 and principal photography starting in April 2021 in the United Kingdom. The series premiered on August 21, 2022, with the first season consisting of ten episodes. Five days after its premiere, the series was renewed for a second season.

Now more than ever, parallel cards and variations matter. (What’s the difference? A parallel card uses the same photo as a player’s base card, but with different design elements, while a variation uses a different photo and sometimes a different design. These could be called “Just Photo” variations, as cards have all the card’s design elements removed, so just the photo remains. It’s an interesting idea, and it will be fun to see how collectors react. Retail boxes will contain 24 packs per box, with each pack containing 14 cards per pack. Hobby Boxes contain 20 packs per box, with 12 cards per hobby pack.

Tier 3: Rookies with a higher risk than potential investment reward in 2024 Topps Series 1

He went 15-for-34 with two doubles, two triples, and a home run in 8 games, but it all came crashing down when he tore his ACL running the bases. Luciano’s bat speed drives his hit tool and puts him in the 90th percentile for exit velocity among minor leaguers. So although a 54.5% hard-hit rate is unrealistic, envisioning him atop those leaderboards in the future isn’t. Rodriguez emerged as one of baseball’s best catching prospects in 2022 and profiles as an impact big leaguer with plus hitting and power potential. He could ultimately become one half of an enviable catching duo with Davis in Pittsburgh. It’s easy to dream on Rodriguez becoming a foundational piece who helps usher the Pirates out of their lengthy rebuild.

For many collectors, there is no single sports card release more important and influential than 1952 Topps Baseball. Grabe provides insight into the brainstorming and refinement process for the 2024 Topps Series 1, emphasizing the collaborative and exploratory nature of the initial stages. One such idea that emerged was the placement of the team name at the top of the card, a concept with nostalgic echoes from previous designs.

Topps Series 1 Baseball Cards Checklist + Odds + Best Cards

I have been buying hobby boxes and jumbo boxes for years. When you spend $180 for a box that contains cards worth less than $60, it is time to say something. Most of the inserts were unknown rookies, including the autograph and both relics. My best card for a $180 purchase was a Judge Chrome Silver Pack card. While 2023 featured the Golden Mirror Image Variation set, the 2024 product provides True Photo Variation cards that strip away the design and let the imagery be the focal point.

Topps Mega Star Checklist

The use of a neon glow around the border of the image and the team name is also a new element. Promoted by a 15-second video featuring Cincinnati Reds star and hobby favorite Elly De La Cruz, Topps previewed the card design for 2024 Topps Series 1 Baseball Thursday morning. Limited to 500 copies per card, Heavy Lumber is back to showcase top hitters on a wood-grained design.

Parallels include Green Foil (/99), Purple Foil (/75), Gold Foil (/50), Orange Foil (/25), Red Foil (/5), and 1/1 FoilFractor. 1989 Topps Baseball celebrates the 35th anniversary of the classic junk wax set that helped close out the 1980’s. Parallels include Blue, Black (/299), The Real One (/89), Gold (/75), Red (/10) and Platinum (1/1). The Real One parallels are printed on heritage-style card stock. In addition, Blaster boxes will come with exclusive holiday-themed parallels. This is similar to how 2023 Topps Update included Christmas/Winter-themed parallels.

Postseason Performance Relics are sequentially numbered out of 99. Postseason Performance Autograph Cards are numbered sequentially to 50 or less. Red (/25), and Platinum 1/1 parallels are also available. 1989 Topps Baseball Foilboard brings the foil to the 1989 Topps inserts. Parallels include Gold Foil (/50), Orange Foil (/25), Red Foil (/5), and 1/1 Black Foil.

Superstar Blueprint highlights stats and characteristics that provide the “blueprint” for success. Parallels include Blue, Black (/299), Gold (/75), Red (/10) and Platinum (1/1). According to The Collectibles Guru, every card in the series has one card stamped with “First Card.” As the stamp implies, if you see a card with this stamp, it means it was the first card printed.

He recorded a hit in each of his first six postseason games, finishing with a World Series victory. In those 17 postseason games, he went 18-for-60 with 9 doubles, 1 home run, and 3 stolen bases. Elly De La Cruz entered the 2023 season as Baseball America’s #8 prospect and looked as fantastic as advertised in his first month in the big leagues. He has three electrifying tools in his power, speed, and arm.

This is now the 3rd product I have bought recently were the number of missing cards almost necessitates having to buy an additional box. On another note the design is nice but nothing special. Guess I’ll stay with Panini who at least puts together a better design and better autos.

Adding to the rejuvenating sense of “newness” is a new crop of rookie cards to entice collectors. I wouldn’t say I’m let down often by cards, but this variation left me a bit disappointed. In what I was envisioning as a “team color variation” being a vibrant addition to the Topps lineup is simply a card with team color elements anchored by the team’s logo along the borders. While it’s fun to pull a star rookie or veteran, such cards are common and thus not terribly valuable in most cases. A parallel or variation of those cards, though, can mean huge value. More importantly, while some of these parallels and variations are obvious and easy to spot, others can easily pass by the untrained eye.

I truly believe it’s a matter of preference, especially because there doesn’t seem to be much difference in card values. More scarce, there is the black parallel /73, Mother’s Day Hot Pink /50, Father’s Day Powder Blue /50, and the most scarce of all, Platinum 1/1 (which is silver-looking). Vintage stock parallels are one of my favorites because they are a mix of nostalgia and modern, are numbered, and are sometimes a bit tricky to find if you’re not looking for them. So, I felt it should more closely identify with the other color parallels, but it feels more like an Independence Day parallel or even the logo parallels typically released by Donruss. A Philadelphia native, Hart is also known for being on the smaller side.

Retail Hanger boxes contain 59 cards per hanger, with 64 hanger boxes per case. Retail Fat Packs contain 36 cards per pack, with 108 fat packs per case. The release of Topps flagship is something of a hobby holiday.

What Surprised Me on My First Canada & New England Cruise

royal caribbean new england cruise

Marvel at the beaux-art landmark — and recreate your favorite movie scene filmed at the famed location. Or check out the iconic 77-story Chrysler Building, a true art deco masterpiece. And be sure to stop by the Flatiron Building, one of the first steel-frame skyscrapers in the world. Here are 11 of the best cruises to Canada and New England to consider. When visiting Boston, the easiest way to get around is by the subway or "the T" as the locals call it. Experience the sights, sounds and flavors of the cities where America got her start.

NEW ENGLAND CRUISES

royal caribbean new england cruise

The appeal of vibrant fall foliage, watching excursions and lobster bakes draw many to these cruises. The chance to see quaint towns, enjoy terrific seafood, and take in nature's beauty without the Caribbean heat are at the heart of why many try a cruise going north. Considered the cultural capital of the U.S., New York City has close to one hundred must-see museums to choose from.

This is a beer lover's dream cruise

Some of Royal Caribbean's New England cruises go as far north as Quebec and St. John's in Canada, giving you the full experience of the Atlantic coast, including the world’s famous New York City. From stylish Quebec City to the north, to the idyllic coast of Maine and the historic streets of Boston, there's always something a new thing to do on a New England cruise. You can't miss taking in the sights of Acadia National Park in Maine during your vacation. Known as the Crown Jewel of the North Atlantic Coast, it's no wonder 3.3 million people visit every year.

Boston was super easy to sail from

However, the region's photogenic landscapes, charming ports and fresh local seafood make time ashore uniquely enjoyable for couples and families. Plus, late summer and early fall getaways can be convenient and affordable, especially if you already live on the East Coast. Celebrity Cruises is offering its 11-night Boston, Maine & Canada itinerary on four late August and September dates in 2024 and another four in 2025. The disadvantage of summer is it's the peak part of the season, and there will be multiple cruise ships in each port along with plenty of land tourists to contend with. For upscale, door-to-door, all-inclusive cruising to New England and Canada, Silversea Cruises offers itineraries on a wide selection of summer and fall dates. The most comprehensive trip is a 12-night New York-to-Quebec City itinerary in summer 2024 aboard the 388-passenger Silver Shadow.

THE MAINE EVENT

International culture and cuisine await you in Queens, while wineries and beaches speckle Long Island. Or stop in Hoboken, a pedestrian-friendly town where you can stroll along the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway across from Manhattan’s glimmering skyline. When you choose to apply (and are approved) for a new credit card through our site, we may receive compensation from our partners, and this may impact how or where these products appear. Please view our advertising policy and product review methodology for more information. While cruise fares are not all-inclusive, passengers can pay a daily fee for a package that includes unlimited beer, wine and cocktails, as well as Wi-Fi and crew gratuities.

There was not only more walking space, but a full sofa and a blue chair and ottoman that I used as my office every day. If you went to a bar, there was a nearly overwhelming selection of local beers and I loved it. Royal Caribbean's onboard beer selection is underwhelming, especially if you like hoppier beers. The best part of this was because we had gone through the immigration process in Bar Harbor, we didn't have to go through it again at the end of the cruise in Boston. Because our cruise began in the United States, then went to Canada, and then returned to a US port midway through the cruise, we had to go through immigration on our visit to Bar Harbor. Every cruise I've taken up until now would have the immigration process occur at the conclusion of the cruise, but this time was different.

By picking a 7-night or longer Canada & New England, you'll get to visit ports in both Maine and Canada, and have access to more of the must-see sights this region is known for. What you will want to do when getting ready to pack for your cruise is keep track on the forecast, and try to see what the predictions are in the days leading up to your sailing. Sightseeing in Manhattan excites and amazes like nowhere else— and every neighborhood presents a fascinating, unique personality. New York cruises allow you to experience it all— by tour bus, subway, or on foot.

Cruise to New England and wind your way through cobblestone streets dotted with antique lampposts and colonial homes. Take a trip to Maine and hike your way through Acadia National Park, known for it's stunning granite cliffs and rocky beaches along the Atlantic coastline. Then make your way further south to the old seaside town of Portland, a haven for artists, foodies and water lovers alike. Walk the Freedom Trail in Boston to learn about the American Revolution in the very places it began. Overnights in Quebec City and Portland give passengers more time to explore on land and enjoy regional cuisine in local restaurants for dinner. Some itineraries will swap the extra day in Portland for one in Bar Harbor or add a stop in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.

Each of the six states that comprise the region is unique, but New England's shared history can be felt in both its small towns and its bustling cities. Take a trip to Maine and hike your way through Acadia National Park, known for its stunning granite cliffs and rocky beaches along the Atlantic coastline. Liberty of the Seas® is your gateway to the postcard-perfect pink-hued shores of Bermuda.

Sailings call on Quebec City, Gaspe and Cap-aux-Meules in Quebec; Louisbourg and Halifax in Nova Scotia; and Portland in Maine. Regent Seven Seas Cruises' newest ship, the 750-passenger Seven Seas Grandeur, debuted in late 2023. In fall 2024, it will sail a series of Canada and New England itineraries from New York and Boston, as well as Montreal. Take advantage of New England's coastal locales by diving into some lobster rolls, oysters and clam chowder. Once you've had your fill of raw delicacies, indulge in the many fried options that the area has to offer, from donuts and cannolis to plentiful French fries. Try to wake up for sunrise when you're sailing along the coast for beautiful views of the Atlantic.

If you're in Bar Harbor and other ports in Maine, order a lobster roll. Maine and the Maritime Provinces are the capital of sourcing lobster, and it's why you need to eat lobster on this cruise. Depending on how much rain the region gets, along with how hot summer is, will determine when the leaves start changing. You risk going when the leaves haven't changed yet or get there after they're mostly on the ground. You'll need to book a cruise in September or October to enjoy the autumn feel and colors of the leaves.

I had put off a Canada and New England cruise for years because it seemed like a secondary itinerary, but I wish I had done it sooner. By taking an early or mid summer cruise, you will find very comfortable temperatures on your cruise. Unlike a Caribbean cruise that is going to be hot and probably sunny, one week in Canada can have very different weather to the next one. While a Canada and New England cruise might not be the most sought-after cruise itinerary, it's worth trying at least once. Stand among skyscrapers at one of New York’s scenic observation decks.

No matter where in the world you choose to wander, cruises can take you deep into top-rated cruise ports and off-the-beaten-path gems, so you can experience each one like a local. The 11-night Fall Season Colors sailing on Oct. 1, 2024, is timed to allow passengers to enjoy regional foliage at its peak as the ship sails from Boston to Montreal. Grandeur calls on Portland, Maine; Saint John, New Brunswick; Sydney, Nova Scotia; Corner Brook, Newfoundland; and Havre-Saint-Pierre, Sept-Iles, Saguenay and Quebec City in Quebec. The overnight in Quebec City also offers an opportunity to enjoy one of Canada's most charming cities after dark.
